Why should I have a debit MasterCard?

Your debit MasterCard is tied to your draft account and is accepted at over 22 million locations for purchases and over 900,000 ATM to obtain cash. The debit MasterCard is safer than cash and more convenient than writing a check.

Do I have to enter my PIN every time I use the debit card?

No, in fact Progressive Federal Credit Union would prefer you sign the receipt when you make a purchase.

Will this work like a credit card?

No, the debit card is directly tied to your draft account and the balance of the account is checked before your purchase is approved. The transaction amount will actually come out of your account with in the next 48 hours. You will see ATM withdrawals hit your account almost immediately after you make them.

How will I know if the correct transactions get to my account?

All transactions will be on your monthly statement and you can also check your activity either with Access/24 or OnCUe (on the internet).

What do I do if I see a transaction that I did not make or authorize any one else to make?

You need to make sure you have the card in your possession and then call Progressive Federal Credit Union as soon as you possibly can. They will need to know your card number, the amount of the transaction and the time and date of the transaction.

Am I liable for any transactions I did not make?

If you did not make the transactions and or your card was lost or stolen, you will not be liable for any purchases made with your card. However, you must inform the Progressive Federal Credit Union as soon as possible of any problems with the debit MasterCard or any unauthorized transactions you notice on your account. You also must take reasonable care to safeguard your debit MasterCard and your PIN. If it can be proven that you did not take reasonable care you will be liable for transactions.

What does reasonable care mean?

DO NOT WRITE YOUR PIN ON THE CARD or store it next to the card. Never give your PIN out over the phone or Internet. Take extra care when entering your PIN at an ATM or point-of-sale terminal. If someone is standing close to you ask them to move away. Then shield the keypad with your hand or whatever you can. Make sure your card is in a safe place at all times. If you do not use your card often, check at least once a week to make sure it is where it belongs and has not been lost or misplaced. If you give your card to a friend or relative, you are responsible for any and all transactions they do.

What do I do if my card is lost or stolen?

If your card is lost or stolen, you need to contact Progressive Federal Credit Union as soon as possible. If it is after hours or a weekend or holiday, you need to call the 800 number that you called to activate the card. If the card is stolen, you should also immediately file a police report.
